Randon can’t forget about the shapeless evil that seems to watch him around corners and seep through the streets of his town Strange things start to occur to Brandon He starts looking for clues about the dead student thinking this might be related to whatever evil Marvel is talking about He also continues to battle against the guys picking. Character Development with a CliffhangerIn Book 2 of Travis Thrasher s Books of Marvella series the murder mystery set up in Book 1 continues to cast a shadow over Brandon Marvel and company as they begin their senior year of high school However it seems to be in the background here with most of the author s attention going toward character development particularly in regards to Brandon s relationship with Marvelat least until the cliffhanger ending Fortunately Thrasher is skilled enough at character development that I still kept turning pages My only uibble is that it was fairly easy to guess what the cliffhanger would beincluding who the next apparent murder victim is However I was not disappointed and am looking forward to the next installment in the series

READ THE ORIGINAL REVIEW ON MY BLOG got this ebook from Tyndale House Publishers Inc through Netgalley in return of an honest reviewSo first of all I didn t realise this was the second book in a series But although I am kind of bummed about the fact that I skipped book 1 Marvelous that doesn t mean that I could enjoy this one And boy did ISo this was a YA contemporary ish mystery ish book yet to me it read like a fantasy book mostly because of the writing and the settingIt had an aura of well wonder and magic constantly cast upon it and I couldn t help but expect some kind of magical revelation or miraculous ending It was honestly something like a real life fairytale esue storyI absolutely loved the set of characters Travis Thrasher created Marvel was the flawed yet perfect girl the one we can only hope will accept her place in the world in the future and I loved her for that Also Brandon was our main character the one we can t help but root for because he was such a good guy trying to save his friends and himself from uncertain futures I really liked the development of their relationship between these two characters in this book and I would have absolutely loved to have seen the way it all started in the previous volumeAll of the other characters were very well developed and most of them were incredibly hateful and dislikable anywhere from high school mean girl to murderous drug dealersAnother thing I wasn t expecting and that really contributed to how much I liked it was the diversity You can just tell this comes from a man who is used to writing multiple genres very different from each other Wonder was mixture of magical romantic moments under the stars and murder investigations obsessed mean ex girlfriends and fight clubsAll I have left to say is that this completely grabbed me from the first page and my heart was racing until the end to the point where I stayed up until 4 am to finish the bookI need the next one in my hands now that ending didn t give me the closure I was hoping for in a good way I might die until the next one just wondering what will become of Marvel and Brandon and Devon and Artie and Carlos and even the record storeThis is an author I really want to support so I will buy his books as soon as it is humanly possible for me to do so

As the town of Appleton is rocked by the death of a teenager the high school year begins under a dark shadow Brandon continues to pursue Marvel while trying to discover what she believes will happen to her It’s easy to fall in love with her It’s easy to forget she thinks God told her she will have to sacrifice herself to save others But B. ARC courtesy of NetGalley25The first thing that made me curious about this book was the cover because i really think is an interesting bright coloured cover that brings attention to the book however it doesn t have anything to do with he story it s just a pretty coverBrandon is a senior in high school and he has a big crush on Marvella Garcia she is new in town and has a dark past the thing about her is that she believes God told her she is going to die trying to save someone interesting premise right They meet in a records store that she works at and the story unfolds from there This story is about faith the things that come with being a teenager people with messed up parents and very dangerous relationships Coming into this book the story felt a bit flat and uninteresting the writing was decent but it didn t capture the attention of the reader something that is specially important in the first chapters As the story unfolded and specially in the final chapters of the book the writing improved as well as the story in itself it became fast passed and relatable as well as balanced in terms of the problems that were happening to the charactersOne of the major things I found irritating was the way Brandon acted and thought when he was around Marvel he was too clingy and desperate it felt like he thought she could do no wrong and don t get me wrong Brandon is a well created character he is flawed like we all are but he is kind sweet and protective all great ualities it just felt as if his feelings for Marvel were too unrealistic Marvel on the other hand is portrait as this interesting girl which is not really true she is different but her character could sometimes come of as flat she was also presented in a way that seems as if she were perfect this might have something to do with the way Brandon thinks about her but it really irritates me because Christians are not perfect we are so very very flawed people and i think it would had been a better story if she was shown in a realistic relatable lightThe other characters in this story were the ones that had me asking uestions they were the ones i found intriguing but i didn t get to see much of them in this book which is uite sad because i genuinely thought they would be a big part of this storyMoving on what i really enjoyed about this book is the open way in which Marvel talked about God and how Brandon even though he doesn t understand it he still respects it and doesn t cut her off Another thing I enjoyed about this book were the last chapters when things pick up speed and were intriguing and mysterious Overall i enjoyed the feeling of the book i liked the characters but i couldn t relate to them which is a really big deal when writing a book for teenagers relate ability is a must It was an interesting read and the last chapters were really intriguing I hope to find contemporary christian books in the future this is a first for me
