Let's Do It Together

Published 17 July 2012

Great Deals Colchester have teamed up with local businesses to raise lots of money for a very worthwhile cause.

Local independent businesses here in Colchester are working together to bring you some 'Great Deals': discounts, money off, sale items, competitions, freebies and some exclusive offers too, all direct to you via Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, email and text. Launched in February this year Great Deals Colchester already have over 5000 Likes on Facebook and over 800 Followers on Twitter and are getting bigger by the day!

Great Deals Colchester are taking part in The Birkett Long £50 Challenge in aid of St Helena Hospice and have already initiated a huge number of fundraising events so far. First up, the team tripled their money by taking their crisp £50 note to the lovely crew at JaysRays Tanning Salon who gave them three £50 notes back - result!

They then gave the money to a number of different businesses who each embarked on their own project, to see how much further their money could grow!

Head Chef Matt Wilby at Mussi's Restaurant and Cafe has made some delicious nibbles (flapjacks, brownies and biscotti biscuits) from the finest ingredients. They're on sale at the restaurant for £2 and have already been a hit with the customers. Find out more on 01206 762000.

The Hair Factory are selling travel hair brushes for £2.50 and offering treatments to raise funds. Based on North Hill their loyal customers are clearly fully supporting this challenge as the brushes and treatments are selling fast. For more info call Julie on 01206 500950.

CelebrationsCreations used their £50 to book a venue for a really fabulous Charity Night on Saturday 1st September. This promises to be a great night, featuring a hog roast, live singing,  and a raffle which now includes over £1,000 worth of prizes. The support from local businesses so far has been amazing and over half the tables available are already sold out. Hosted by CelebrationsCreations, this night will be a fitting finale weekend to Great Deals Colchester fundraising events. Please call 07795 108428 if you would like to donate a prize.

Cakes with Class are holding a cake stall in Colchester town centre (next to River Island) on Saturday 28th July. They will be selling yummy cakes, beautiful cupcakes and delicious treats, with all funds going towards the £50 Challenge. Having successfully done a stall for other charities, Cakes with Class are bound to get a lot of interest. So many delicious cakes at a great price and all going to a great cause; what’s not to like? Cake donations are very much appreciated and can be dropped at any of the Celebrations shops in Monkwick or St Johns. Please call 07795 108428  if you can make a cake to donate.

On Sunday 2nd September the team at Rodneys Barbers will be doing a 13 mile walk round Mersea Island as part of the challenge. Rodneys Barbers are celebrating 45 years of trading this year and want to get as much support for this event from their huge number of regular customers as possible. The walk will also give the team the opportunity for a fun day out with the support of family and friends. To sponsor them please call Shelly on 07823 330 631.

John Blackhurst from Great Deals Colchester says “it's a great way for us as businesses to work together and raise funds. It really has created a team feeling between the members of Great Deals Colchester and everyone who is getting involved - either by doing something, donating prizes for the raffle (now in excess of £1,000), booking tables and promoting the event in all the shops and businesses. We have also made a great connection with the St Helena Hospice team too and hope to continue supporting them and the great work they do.”
